Wesley Carr

The ashes of Dr (Arthur) Wesley Carr, KCVO, Dean of Westminster from 1997-2006, were buried in the nave of Westminster Abbey on 24th April 2018. The square stone, cut by Teucer Wilson, is near to the grave of his predecessor Michael Mayne and has the inscription:

A life of discovery

He was the son of Arthur and Irene Carr and was born on 26th July 1941. Educated at Dulwich College and Oxford he was ordained in 1967. He served as Chaplain at Ridley Hall, Oxford and at Chelmsford cathedral. In 1987 he became Dean of Bristol. He married Natalie Gill. While at the Abbey he officiated at the funerals of Diana, Princess of Wales and H.M. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. He was a writer on pastoral ministry and retired to Romsey in Hampshire and died on 15th July 2017.
