Alexander Hamilton
Organ Scholar
Alexander Hamilton is the Abbey’s Organ Scholar for the academic year. In this role he shares in the organ playing duties for Abbey services, assists in directing the choir and training the choristers, and is the assistant choir librarian.
From 2015-2018, he was Organ Scholar of Trinity College, Cambridge, and during his gap year, was organ scholar of St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. He has studied with Ann Elise Smoot, Colin Walsh and Stephen Farr, and has received a scholarship to study part-time this year with Henry Fairs at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
Alexander won First Prize in the Northern Ireland International Organ Competition 2015. Recent engagements have included a Bach concert at the St Albans International Organ Festival, and recitals at the London Organ Day, King’s College, Cambridge, St Paul’s Cathedral and St John’s Smith Square. As a conductor, he regularly directed Trinity College Choir and other ensembles in Cambridge. Recent and forthcoming performances include performances of Bach’s B Minor Mass and Christmas Oratorio with his own ensemble, The Kilgour Consort.
