Thursday, 2nd May 2013 at 6.15 PM

Dame Averil Cameron held two professorial appointments in succession at King's College London, where she was also the first Director of the Centre for Hellenic Studies. In 1994 she moved to Oxford to become Warden of Keble College Oxford (the position held in the 1950s by Eric Symes Abbott). Among her many books and articles are several dealing with the Emperor Constantine, who provides the starting point of her lecture. She retired in 2010 but remains very active academically, writing on early Christianity, late antiquity and Byzantium. She was also Vice-chair and Chair successively of the Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England and was invited to chair the Review of the Royal Peculiars (including Westminster Abbey), which issued its report in 2001.
