Enzo Plazzotta

In 1993 the Dean and Chapter of Westminster were presented with a life size bronze of the Crucifixion by the family of the Italian sculptor Enzo Plazzotta. He served with the Italian partisans during the Second World War and lived in London from 1947. The sculpture was completed in 1974 and cast posthumously in Tuscany. It shows Our Lord, suspended between Heaven and earth, hanging from an imaginary Cross yet with his arms stretched out in victory. He is flanked by the two thieves, one looking away in rejection and the other gazing up in belief. The sculpture is placed in Westminster Abbey's College Garden, at the far end beyond the fountain. The plaque on it reads:

The garden is normally open to the public Tuesdays-Thursday and accessed via the cloisters.
