Organ recital to mark Christchurch anniversary
Friday, 13th February 2015
Westminster Abbey will mark the fourth anniversary of the 2011 Christchurch earthquake with an organ recital on Sunday 22nd February at 5.45pm. Admission is free and tickets are not required.
The magnitude 6.3 earthquake killed 181 people and caused widespread destruction in the New Zealand city, including the loss of two major cathedrals.
The recital will be given by the Abbey's Christchurch-born Organ Scholar, Jeremy Woodside. It will include the premiere of a new piece, Fractures: In Memoriam, written by Christchurch composer Matthew Everingham (University of Canterbury).
A collection for the Christchurch rebuilding appeal will be taken at the end of the recital.
